What’s an extra 45 days between friends?
October 6th, 2008
On Friday, US Senator Ron Wyden sent FERC a letter requesting an additional 45 days for public comment on the agency’s draft environmental impact statement (DEIS). As it stands, the last day for public comment on the DEIS is December 4th, but as of yet, many of the projects critical details have yet to be unveiled.
Wyden wrote:
Unfortunately, the public has either limited time or no opportunity at all to review the following NEPA-required information because it is not yet available to the public and will not be made available to the public until shortly before or even after December 4
Among the specifics Wyden listed as requiring additional time included:
- The airspace review wich will determine how flights out of North Bend will be affected and what effect the project might have on air service to the air has not been completed.
- The pipeline route is not yet set, leaving landowners uncertain as to whether they were directly affected or not.
- The tsunami/earthquake analysis required by FERC isn’t due until after the public comment period has expired.
